BOAT DRIVER/INTERPRETIVE GUIDE

BOAT DRIVER/TOUR GUIDE

 
Job Description: Interpretive guides/ship's masters take guests on a 1.5 hour journey to/from Spirit Island. They help the lake come alive to our guests as they draw them into the history of Maligne Lake with storytelling and by using various experiential tools.
 
Job Responsibilities: 
• understanding the rich ecology and human history of Maligne Lake
• taking this knowledge and creating a wow experience for our guests whereby they feel a part of the story
• engaging the visitor using a number of different approaches so that they feel a sense of place and a deeper connection to the Maligne Valley
• learning to skillfully pilot a 41 foot vessel so passengers can cruise in complete safety and comfort
• undergoing a series of in-house and Transport Canada exams to prove that you are a competent and reliable captain
 
Skills/Requirements:
• We offer extensive training wherein new staff learn all the information (history, glaciers, wildlife, etc. ) necessary to offer a great tour to our guests. What we require from you is that you love working with people from around the world and look forward to sharing the Maligne Valley with them. We need you to be a storyteller. No one wants to hear random facts about the lake; Maligne Lake interpretive guides create interest among guests by weaving facts into great stories and offering them experiences and opportunities to participate.
• We offer all boat related training: vessel familiarization, safety features, emergency procedures, parts of the engine and how they work, Transport Canada regulations, how to pilot and dock a vessel and how to handle a ship during emergencies. It isn't necessary to have driven a boat before BUT it is in every new candidates best interest to have some basic technical know-how. We have to know that our captains will be at ease learning how to dock and learning the ins and outs of the engines not to mention handling Transport Canada's exams and our own high standards of seamanship.
• Candidates must be minimum 21 years of age and Canadian citizens (with the ability to provide proof of citizenship). A second language is a huge asset. 
• Successful candidates will be asked to participate in a Marine First Aid course and submit to a medical exam.

RESERVATIONS & TICKET SALES

Job Description: Positions are available in both the ticket office located at Maligne Lake or in Jasper townsite.  Responsibilities include customer service, assisting both groups and individuals with reserving, scheduling and purchasing of all Maligne Lake activities, coordination between the two offices, dispatching of tour boats and crews. This is a customer oriented position, ensuring that all of our clients have the best possible impression during their visit to Jasper National Park.  Visitors come from all over the world and it is up to us to make their vacation to the Rockies an experience of a lifetime.

Employment Prerequisites:
18 years of age
Previous cash handling experience
Customer/Sales oriented, focused and well organized
Second Language an asset
Alberta Class 4 driver’s license an asset

Wage: $12.00 per hour + $1.00 per hour season completion/performance bonus




BOATHOUSE ATTENDANT

BOATHOUSE ATTENDANT

Job Description: Working under the supervision of the Boathouse Manager you will be assisting with the outfitting of fishing trips, sale of tackle and the rental & maintenance of equipment, including canoes, sea kayaks and row boats.Your  interpretation to clients of the  the inherent risks and diversity which will be encountered on this large alpine lake, will ensure the utmost safety of all involved.

Employment Prerequisites:

18 years of age
Valid First Aid Certificate
Cash handling experience
Water Safety /Boat handling knowledge
Interest in Fishing
Second language an asset

Wage: $11.50 per hour + $1.00 per hour season completion/performance bonus


GIFT SHOP CLERK

Job Description: Responsibilities include customer service, merchandising, restocking, receiving and pricing inventory, cleaning and maintenance of retail space.  Maintaining a high standard of customer service.

18 years of age

Customer/Sales oriented, focused and well organized

FOOD & BEVERAGE DEPARTMENT

Job Description: Responsibilities include service of hot items, cashiering, clearing tables, restocking self-serve items and maintenance of cleanliness and tidiness of all areas at all times.  Some service at evening functions is required.  Maintaining a high level of customer service.

COOK

Job Description: Responsibilities include the preparation of soups, chili and stews for a self serve style restaurant, as well as preparation of evening hot buffet dinners. Long hours are often involved.

Employment Prerequisites:

18 years of age
Substantial Experience / Some formal training
Able to work with minimum supervision
Alberta Class 4 driver’s license an asset

PREP COOK

Job Description: Responsibilities include the preparation of sandwiches, salads, plus hot food for a self serve style restaurant, as well as preparation of evening hot buffet dinners.  Long hours are often involved.

KITCHEN HELPER

Job Description: Wash and peel vegetables and fruit, wash work tables, cupboards and appliances, remove trash and clear kitchen garbage containers, unpack and store supplies in refrigerators, cupboards and other storage areas, sweep and mop floors, and perform other duties to assist cook and kitchen staff.  Prepare food such as sandwiches, salads, portion and wrap food.

Wages: $11.00 per hour + $1.00 per hour season completion/performance bonus

BAKER

Job Description: Responsibilities include preparing a variety of baking, breads and desserts. Requires an organized person with a keen eye for presentation who can also handle high volume situations.

Employment Prerequisites:
18 years of age
Some food preparation experience

Wage: $11.00 per hour + $1.00 per hour season completion/performance bonus


DISHWASHER

Job Description: Operating dishwasher to clean all implements, cleaning and maintenance of kitchen and dishwashing area.

18 years of age
Able to work with a minimum of supervision
No previous experience required

Wage: $11.00 per hour + $1.00 per hour season completion/performance bonus


NIGHT CLEANER

Job Description: Responsible for after hours cleaning of the Maligne Lake Chalet, both public areas and kitchen, including dusting, vacuuming, mop floors, clean bathrooms as well as removing garbage and tidying outdoor patio areas

Employment Prerequisites:

18 years of age
Able to work without supervision

Wage: $11.00 per hour + $1.00 season completion/performance bonus,
Additionally; meals and on- site accommodation provided.
